Metal Roofing System Install — 7 Years Later
The best compliment a roof can receive is boredom, so we checked in on a standing seam system our crews installed seven Minnesota winters ago, expecting nothing and hoping for the same. We were not disappointed, and the homeowners were delighted to show it off.
Seven years of evidence: the dark bronze finish has faded less than the patio furniture beneath it. The snow guards have performed their quiet choreography every spring, releasing snow in polite sheets instead of avalanches. The valleys, the usual suspects in any roof interrogation, are clean and unblemished. Fastener lines remain tight. The one repair call in seven years turned out to be a satellite dish installer's fault, and we fixed his holes for free anyway.
The numbers behind the visit: zero leaks, zero panel replacements, one cleaning of pollen film, and an insurance premium the owners report has been, in their words, suspiciously cooperative. The neighboring asphalt roofs have been replaced once already in that span, and the block now has three more steel roofs, word travels.
Seven years is early in a metal roof's career, but it is the stretch where shortcuts confess themselves. This system keeps telling the same story: install it right, and the decades take care of themselves.
