December and January Roofing Projects

Minnesotans are surprised every year to learn that roofing does not hibernate. December and January are working months for our crews, with materials and methods chosen for the cold, and certain jobs that are actually easier in winter.

What winter allows: full tear-offs and replacements on moderate days, emergency repairs after storm damage, ice-dam remediation with steam, never picks, and interior-side assessments when attics tell on themselves. Sealants and adhesives have temperature floors, so we schedule detail work for the warmer windows and save mechanical fastening for the deep cold.

This winter's highlights: an emergency tarp-and-replace on a Roseville duplex after wind peeled back a slope at 2 a.m., a standing seam install in Eagan completed across four crisp days the homeowners described as absurdly pleasant, and our annual volunteer day re-flashing the porch roof of a community center in Frogtown.

The winter lesson we repeat every year: condensation and ice dams are attic diseases. If your windows sweat and your eaves grow stalactites, the fix is upstairs, not on the ladder. We inspect attics all winter, thermos of coffee included.
