Metro Roofing Newsletter — Issue 10
Ten issues in, and the mailbox keeps growing. Thank you for reading, forwarding, and arguing with us about gutters at the hardware store. This issue covers the question we hear most from newer Minnesota homeowners: how long will my roof actually last?
Honest answers, by material, in our climate: builder-grade asphalt shingles often give fifteen to twenty years before our hail and ice hasten retirement. Architectural asphalt pushes toward twenty-five with good ventilation. Stone-coated steel and standing seam commonly reach forty to seventy years, and frequently outlive their first owners. Slate and quality shake last generations when maintained, but demand the right structure and the right care.
The variable that matters most is not the brochure. It is the installation. Ventilation, underlayment, flashing detail and fastener discipline decide whether a thirty-year shingle sees year thirty. We photograph every installation layer by layer, so you know exactly what is under your warranty.
Anniversary note: issue one promised honest answers. The best one we can give remains: the cheapest roof work is the work done on time. See you at issue twenty.
