Metro Roofing Newsletter — Issue 03
Autumn in Minnesota is roof-planning season. Winter is coming for your eaves, and issue three is devoted to the checklist that separates cozy attics from March emergencies.
The fall checklist, in order: clean gutters and downspouts after the leaves surrender; trim branches that will be carrying wet snow; check attic insulation levels at the hatch, warm ceilings make ice dams, and ice dams make roofers popular in February; and have the roof inspected while temperatures still allow sealants to cure properly.
Our crews use autumn for the projects smart homeowners scheduled in summer. This fall we completed a standing seam installation in White Bear Lake that the homeowners timed around their daughter's wedding, the tent went up in the yard, and the only thing raining on anything was confetti. We also finished our fourth steeple of the year, and the pastor rang the bells when the last panel seated.
Winter tip: if you see frost on your roof's nail heads in the attic, or mustache-shaped stains at the ceiling corners, call before the deep freeze. Ventilation problems whisper in November and shout in January.
